The King Alfred School
Walking into King Alfred, you instantly sense that it is a unique environment. Situated on the edge of Hampstead Heath, you will notice the village green setting, our farm, our beautiful trees. Our school dog may bark a hello, and you will see students relaxing and learning in our historic tree house. Above all, you will see children and young people who are genuinely happy to be at school.
Our vision of what schools should be like goes back to our founders in 1898. They wanted to provide an education that focused on what was best for the whole child, on the development of character and individuality. And these principles remain just as true today as they did over 125 years ago.
As a result, we are less hierarchical and more democratic than other schools. First names are used between students and staff, there is no uniform, and as few rules as can be managed within a community. Our students can be who they really are, and develop into creative, confident and thoughtful individuals. Over the course of our history, our graduates have achieved brilliantly, and have been given the foundations to go on and lead happy, successful and fulfilling lives.
At the heart of our education is a child-centred approach. We appreciate that every child is unique, and we get to know them as individuals. By making the curriculum and learning experiences active, creative and challenging, we nurture a love of learning and a passion to continue education throughout their lives. Examination success is important, we support our students to take them in their stride, and value their learning beyond the exam grade.
We also ensure our students are equipped to be socially responsible citizens ready for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century. We support them to gain a sophisticated understanding of societies both near and far from home and to recognise the value of diversity and alternative views. We ensure they have a strong voice within their school, and the skills and attributes required for our rapidly changing world.
Personal development and pastoral care have also always been at the heart of who we are. We appreciate today’s pressures on young people, and have the experience and resources to support each individual’s well-being. Young people are capable of incredible accomplishments and our approach encourages them to build their confidence and self-belief. The mark of a KAS student is that they are resilient, compassionate, and filled with an appetite for the possibilities of life.
With many generations of success behind us, we are passionately committed to what we do.

The King’s School, Canterbury
The King’s School, Canterbury is one of the country’s leading co-educational boarding and day schools, located in the idyllic surroundings of the Precincts of Canterbury Cathedral, just one hour from Central London.
The School has a strong academic curriculum that is continually adapting to encompass the ever-changing demands of modern education and almost all our pupils go on to further education at leading universities in the UK and abroad.
We also believe that much of what is most valuable in education takes place outside the classroom. The wide-ranging co-curricular programme has been developed to provide opportunities for all pupils to discover their passions and encourage them to develop these talents as best as possible. Art, Drama, Music and Sport play a large role in school life, alongside the Combined Cadet Force, the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme and numerous other activities to suit all tastes. King’s Week, the School’s own festival of arts at the end of the summer term, involves hundreds of pupils in a showcase of creativity ending each academic year on a fitting note of achievement and enjoyment. Music is a central part of life at the School with a range of disciplines flourishing, from a large Symphony Orchestra, to a 40-voice SATB choir of Cathedral Standard.
The main school site is situated in the Precincts of Canterbury Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, providing a beautiful and inspiring backdrop to what has been described as ‘a university for young people’. Further sites include the historic St Augustine’s Abbey, a 22-acre multi-purpose sports field with a pavilion, and a purpose-built sports recreation centre owned and managed by the School.

The Latymer School
A state-funded selective grammar school for boys and girls, it is located at the heart of the diverse and bustling Borough of Enfield, close to Edmonton Green overground station. After moving from Church Street in 1901, the school found its current home on Haselbury Road. From this site, we are proud to serve the young people of Edmonton and the surrounding areas.
Our school’s sizeable community of over 1,350 students embodies a wide variety of cultures, religions and beliefs. Our passionate and highly-qualified staff, hailing from countries across the world, also play a key role in school life. We work together to welcome young people of all backgrounds and promote a liberal ethos of respect and tolerance.
Academically, Latymerians excel. Together with the support of parents/carers, our staff help students to achieve outstanding examination results at GCSE and A Level year-on-year. Our results place us in the top 10% of co-educational schools nationally. But we do not solely value knowledge, we also place a high importance on social and emotional enrichment through extracurricular activities and events.
Ultimately, we aim to send all Latymerians into the world as balanced, conscientious and well-informed individuals.

The Leys
The Leys is the leading co-educational boarding and day school in Cambridge. This statement, whilst true, does not begin to convey what makes this such a special place.
Firstly, we are more than just a school. The Leys is a close-knit, engaged, friendly community in which pastoral care is seen as our top priority. I often say to visitors that we see ourselves as a big, small school: big enough to offer a huge range of opportunities, but small enough that we are able to get to know individuals, with all their individual strengths and unique characters, and able to encourage them to strive to be the best they can be. The confidence which our pupils gain from this encouraging family atmosphere is perhaps the greatest gift we can offer them – without it, they cannot hope to fulfil their potential in work and play.
Established in 1875, The Leys values its history, yet it blends traditional values – courtesy, tolerance, respect, decency – with a forward and outward-looking approach to education. Dedicated staff and superb facilities combine powerfully as we prepare young people for the challenges which lie ahead at university and beyond. Yet I have always believed that school is, or should be, about far more than merely “preparation for life”. Indeed, my ambition is that Leysians will be able to look back on their experiences here as amongst the most intrinsically rewarding, challenging and stimulating chapters of their developing lives.
Set in the centre of the beautiful and stimulating city of Cambridge, one of the world’s leading cultural and academic cities, our unique location allows our pupils unrivalled opportunities to achieve the exceptional. Our added-value in academic progress is among the most impressive in the country, and the range of creative, cultural and sporting opportunities is breath-taking. We are rightly proud of our pupils’ achievements, both in the classroom and outside it, but the greatest pride we have is in the pupils themselves. They are our greatest achievement.

The Manchester Grammar School
Our history dates back to the time of Henry VIII when The Manchester Grammar School was founded in 1515 by Hugh Oldham, Bishop of Exeter, to provide 'godliness and good learning' to the poor boys of Manchester.
The School proceeded to build a reputation as one of the country’s leading educational establishments, a position it still holds today as an independent day school.
Much has changed in the intervening five hundred years, but our core mission to educate the brightest young men in the North of England regardless of their social, cultural, religious and financial background, has not.
We aim to teach boys to think for themselves and to develop a life-long love of learning. Lessons are taught by academic specialists with a passion for their subject, and teaching goes well beyond the narrow confines of examination syllabuses, offering our students the best preparation for the very top universities, both in this country and abroad.
There is, however, much more to an MGS education than what happens in the classroom. What makes this School truly special is the outstanding achievement of our pupils in areas such as sport, music and drama, and in keeping with Hugh Oldham’s aims we produce well rounded young men who have a true sense of service to their communities.
As a former MGS pupil myself, I know just how much of an impact the School has had on my life. This is an extraordinary school, and I am very proud of all that we do. An education at MGS is a true adventure for ambitious boys with enquiring minds.

On the day of their assessment boys are taught in groups of up to 10 and take part in a variety of lessons and activities. These include a Maths lesson and a topic-based lesson, and boys are set short tests on what they have learnt. Lesson content is purposefully based on areas boys will not have studied before, as we are looking to identify potential rather than prior learning. This also puts all boys on an equal basis during assessment. Some creative writing is also set.

On the Assessment Day, boys are taught a Maths lesson, a topic-based lesson, and participate in a series of group activities. They also complete a piece of creative writing.

Trinity School, Croyden
The success we are aiming for is not just the excellence that our students achieve; it is evidenced in the kind of people they become. Our aim is that Trinity boys and girls become the very best versions of themselves; people who choose to impact the world positively when they leave us.
We believe that great outcomes are delivered through a culture of strong values. That is why we are proud to have established a community of generosity and kindness, in which every student is known and cared for as an individual. In this nurturing environment, the curiosity and ambition of each young person can be fully explored and expressed. This, in turn, opens doors to the world’s best universities, colleges and careers.
Equally, we want students to leave Trinity without any sense of entitlement, but with a humility that acknowledges the fact that there is always more to learn and others to learn from. We welcome students from an unusually wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds, and they leave ready to build and contribute to the communities they join, with the skills and responsibility to care for other people and the wider world.
Whilst at Trinity, we want every student to love being part of our community, and to thrive on the opportunities to learn and engage. When they leave, we hope they will have made these values their own.
I would very much like to welcome you to the School so you can feel for yourself the warm, purposeful atmosphere and experience the true spirit of Trinity.
